Åbo Akademi University and the University of Turku invite you to join the annual colloquium of the Finnish Society for Environmental Social Science (YHYS) on the 19th–20th November 2026 in Turku, Finland.
The theme of the YHYS Fall Colloquium 2026 is Facts, Fictions and Sustainable Futures. The colloquium explores how facts, narratives and imaginaries shape environmental action in a time when environmental crises coexist with policy backlash, political contestation and uneven trust in institutions. Alongside the sessions, the colloquium will feature four keynote talks by esteemed guests Catriona McKinnon (University of Exeter), Malcolm Fairbrother (Uppsala University), Tero Toivanen (University of Helsinki) and Johanna Kaakinen (University of Turku).
The colloquium will be preceded by a PhD workshop on Wednesday 18th November 2026 with more information to come.
Call for sessions is now open
We invite convenors to submit a proposal for a session. Sessions can be accepted in English, Finnish or Swedish. Convenors will be responsible for selecting papers, organizing the session programme and chairing the sessions. Sessions will take place in-person. If you are interested in organizing and chairing a session, please send your proposal including:
- Name of the session
- Max. 300 word description of the session
- Name and affiliation of the convenor(s)
- E-mail of the primary contact for the session (only one)
The deadline for the submission of session proposals is Monday 1st June 2026. Decisions on the acceptance of session proposals will be communicated by Tuesday 30th June 2026. The call for papers will be opened in early August 2026. Read more about the call for sessions.
